Femme Flagging: Finger Meanings
ceepolk:
I have said before that I think that nail polish is such a great way to flag because many codes can intersect on the hands. Not just colours, but also handedness, the fingers that are flagged, symbols or figures on the nail, or glitter - it goes on and on.
But when I started thinking about the significance of which finger is used in flagging, I kept remembering palmistry.
A little...

Coffee And Swears: Femme flagging →
coffeeandswears:
I just painted my nails—well, apparently it’s the color for dirty talk, according to this, which, fair enough, but really I just put the color on because a friend gave it to me yesterday and I like it. Anyway, it struck me that one thing about the hanky code that’s different from nail polish-based femme flagging is that you can stop flagging if you start feeling awkward or...

flagging for nonmonogamy in an long-term...
coeurensabot:
an experiment in femme flagging, specifically flagging for nonmonogamy in an ltr. I’ve used a black glitter nail polish, with a silver glitter polish on the left ring finger. I looooove the idea of being able to flag for nonmonogamy. It would certainly make my life easier. I also really love the idea of having a visible symbol of my relationship that is less obvious/expensive/in...
glitterfieldstudy asked: how does femme flagging acknowledge that one doesn't have to be femme to have painted nails?
stopanthropomorphizingme asked: Another thing about fuck finger specific flagging: to be readily intelligible, fuck fingers would have to be universal. But that's not the case. Fuck fingers are penetration centric, and folk who don't do penetration are excluded. Also, everyone's fuck fingers are different. I've noticed most people have two fingers which they consider their fuck fingers, but some of us have...

Reblogging to capture some of the conversation... →
ceepolk:
I still argue that bisexual women who are in more heterosexual relationships than homosexual ones, are currently in a non-poly het relationship, and still want to flag if only for the purpose of making friends and a wish to participate in community are completely welcome to flag.
And I wonder why anyone might object to that, or dismiss the femme flagging these things as “Lesbian until...

What is the femme flag for “cis lady who paints her nails, mostly fucks and dates cis men, but would like to participate in queer culture publicly”?
Personally, I’m working on “will fight for bottom.”
Maybe, “I would rather be looking at my nails than having sex with you.”

My first attempt at femme flagging
femmesandfamily:
I made up my own code, and I’m terrible at painting nails - BUT WHATEVER.
First, the left hand.
Thumb: Pink/Yellow for Misandry
Ring and pointer: Blue/Pink for Always Consent Always
Middle: Red/Pink for Power Bottom
Pinkie: Yellow for Fat
Now the right!
Thumb: Clear forQueer
Ring and pointer: Blue/Pink for Always Consent Always
Middle: Red/Blue forFisting
Pinkie:...

doctorinvertsugar asked: I love the concept of femme flagging with nail color, and I support the idea of curating a new glossary of meanings, but if everyone makes up their own meanings, then flagging becomes obsolete because illegible. Are there plans to make it more legible through standardisation or something?

I’m perhaps only femme sometimes, but I love the idea of femme flagging. Burgundy for (interest in) fisting and because it’s a pretty fierce color. “Fucking fingers” (penetration fingers) left plain burgundy (they can’t be fancy- they have to do work!). Silver tips for poly, black stripes for a little kink, and thumb is clear (with burgundy stripe) for queer.

champagnebutter-deactivated2013 asked: I ID as pansexual, bisexual and as a dyke/lesbian but not queer, and I present hyperfeminine (not sure if femme is anything to do with that?) but I'm not sure if 'femme' is right for me (seems more for white and queer people) and so I don't want to appropriate femme flagging from white queers if brown dyke aren't welcome x
teapartyghosts asked: You say there should be colors for allies... However, I think there should be colors for everyone. Perhaps one of the fingers you paint means hetero and the other means not? Middle means hetero, ring means not? Then do the left/rights as sub/dom? Being bisexual and in a straight relationship, I am feeling highly left out of this.
